Prime Lens vs Zoom Lens – What you need to know?

Prime Lens

A prime lens is a lens with a fixed focal length (commonly referred to as a “fixed lens”). There is no zoom ring and no real way to change the size of the subject other than moving towards or away from it.

Zoom Lens

A zoom lens, on the other hand, has a range of focal length. It means that you can focus the subject, make them larger or smaller by just rotating the camera zoom. There are three settings that can be adjusted: aperture, focusing distance, and focal length.

Check out the advantages of Prime Lens:

  • Wider Aperture – Very good for low light photography
  • Size and Weight – Easy to handle, good for street and portrait photography
  • Technique – Photographers have to constantly move to get best shots and angles
  • Quality – Sharper images. Since there is no glass inside that moves in-order to zoom.
  • Value for Money.
